Waving Chinese flag on aluminum flagpole against cloudy background. This design of the flag of the People’s Republic dates from 1949 when the Political Consultative Conference created a notice to send in designs for a national flag. They received about 3000 designs. The flag was hoisted for the first time on October 1, 1949, at the proclamation of the People’s Republic of China by Mao Zedong in Tiananmen Square in Beijing.
This flag stands on the Potala Square in Lhasa, Tibet Autonomous Region, China
